Rally to Restore Nature Wednesday, May 31st

Rally to Restore Nature which will occur outside Dáil Éireann on Kildare Street in Dublin on Wednesday this week May 31st between 12.30-13.30.

We hope that Beekeeper’s Associations might be able to join us as Environmental Pillar, Irish Wildlife Trust, SWAN, and An Taisce rally to tell our public representatives that we need a strong EU Nature Restoration law. In 2017, FIBKA joined Irish eNGOs to campaign on the Heritage Bill. The Beekeepers were amazing coming in beekeeping suits and with smokers which made quite the impact.

This new EU Nature Restoration law will be critical for the habitats that support honey bees as well as wild bees and a range of other species and ecosystems. It is being negotiated in Brussels. This is a groundbreaking piece of legislation that would compel governments to restore habitats on land and sea with deadlines that must be reached by 2030, 2040, and 2050. More info here and here and here. Already some Irish Members of the European Parliament and two Parliament committees have rejected it outright buoyed by vested interests. Who wouldn’t want to see more nature?

We need to bring as many people as possible to Kildare St. to fight for this law as there is a chance it could fall in Brussels due to the negativity from some quarters. There has been a lot of misinformation circulating about this proposed law and the rewetting of peatlands. No farmer will be forced to raise the water table of their land.
