Aoife Nic Giolla Coda, as 2022 Chairperson of the Native Irish Honey Bee Society, (and Chair of South Tipperary Beekeepers Association) I am thrilled to be going up to the Seanad tomorrow.
For stage 2 of the Protection of The Native Irish Honey Bee Bill.
The Bill proposes a ban on non-native honey bees. 90% of Irish beekeepers prefer to keep native honey bees.
There will be a gathering of beekeepers in front of Leinster House beforehand from 12 to 1 pm. I put together 30 of these placards last night. Just need to put the timber on them now. And they’ll be ready!

Green Party Senator Vincent P Martin who introduced the bill in the Seanad said that the proposed legislation is urgent-time is not on our side. The Native Irish Hony Bee is under huge and ongoing threat- it is under serious risk of becoming extinct
