Native Irish Honey Bee Society – Apis mellifera mellifera

Native Irish Honey Bee Society
Apis mellifera mellifera

Galtee bee breeding Group (GBBG)

Contact: Micheál Mac Giolla Coda
Based in Tipperary

GBBG supplies several hundred native queens per year but these must be ordered and paid for in advance. The order book is often full for the current season by February so book early to avoid disappointment.

GBBG hosts an open day every year where the queen rearing process is demonstrated.

  1. You say contact M. MacGiollacoda but give no address, no e-mail nor telephone number of either himself or his daughter Aoife. This level of information is of little or no use without actual contact details to allow contact

  4. I would be looking for 2 nucs of mated queens of native stock. I would be looking for docile bees of good temperament and good queen layers who produce workers that are good foragers and produce honey in large quantities.

Do ye have same that I could purchase?

    1. Hi John. NIHBS itself does not supply nucs. You would need to contact some of its members. We hope to get an up to date list of suppliers on the website in the near future.
