Representatives of NIHBS were at Leinster House on 10th November to meet TDs and members of the Senate to discuss the various threats to the native bee population in Ireland.
The main threats are due to the current policy of allowing the free import of bees from other jurisdictions which could bring in novel pests and pathogens such as small hive beetle.

Well done on talking to the Senate, really appreciate the work you are doing for this important cause.
On the senate, I hope they will now commit to definite actions and not just having a nice chat over tea and biscuits 🙂
Keep up the great work.
We met TDs from all the main parties as well and some of the issues we raised are to be brought to the all party agriculture committee. We met with Bobby Aylward, Martin Ferris and Sean Flemming. If nothing else it keeps the native bee on the radar and with an election on the horizon, all are showing interest!
