Native Irish Honey Bee Society – Apis mellifera mellifera

Apis mellifera mellifera

Killinchy and District Queenrearing group

Killinchy & District held an information evening on Sunday 27th in advance of this year’s Queen Rearing activities.

20 members attended and all have expressed an interest in joining the group led by Valentine and Chris Hodges and Billy Miller – dedicated members of the Native Irish Honey Bee Society.

Using only native queens for grafting, Killinchy hope to improve on the performance of last year where the poor Spring weather hindered operations getting underway.

The Killinchy group has also secured new “out” apiary sites (rich in forage) in Greyabbey and Millisle which we hope to flood with native drones in an effort to “secure” the eastern side of Strangford Lough for Apis Mellifera Mellifera.
